Lovells Claims Department has earned a reputation for
handling claims in an equitable, expeditious and thorough manner.
Early intervention following an employee injury or illness is
key to Lovells successful claims management and reduction
of Workers Compensation costs. Thus, prompt reporting
by the employer of all work-related accidents and occupational
illnesses is essential.
The quickest way to report a claim is to fill
out our online Form
C-2, accessible to current Safety Group members by
password. Another option is to prepare hard copy and mail
or fax it to our offices. (For blank copies of Form C-2, please
call our Claims Department at 212/709-8600.) Keep in mind
that New York State Workers Compensation Law requires
an employer to file a First Report of Injury, Form C-2, within
10 days of a reportable incident.
Our Claims Department offers innovative strategies
aimed at providing immediate service whenever a claim is filed.
Our Early Intervention Program coordinates medical
care so that treatment received by an employee is appropriate,
timely and cost-effective. Additionally, our claims adjusters
and case managers are constantly working to develop and administer
new techniques and programs that minimize employee lost work-time
and ensure both employer and employee satisfaction.
Upon acceptance into any of Lovells Safety
Groups, a company is furnished with a copy of our Claims
Procedure Manual, and their designated staff member is
instructed on the proper method for filing Workers Compensation
claims. Sometimes it is more advantageous for an employer
to assume payment of minor medical bills, in order to minimize
the effect of multiple small claims on the companys
Experience Rating. Our expert Claims professionals provide
a full explanation on the benefits and implementation of this
practice.
Another valuable service provided by the Lovell
Claims Department is investigation into injured employees
pre-existing medical conditions and, where appropriate, application
for second-injury funds to reduce eligible high-cost claims.
In the event that an employee is resistant to early intervention
initiatives and appears reluctant to return to work, our staff
focuses on providing a strong defense position at hearings,
settlement negotiations and challenges to excessive treatment
proposed by medical providers. Should contested claims be
brought to the Workers Compensation Board for hearings,
our representative monitors selected hearings and directs
the carrier on continued litigation.
In order to acquire the highest Experience Rating
credit for our Safety Group members, the Lovell Claims Department
evaluates the carriers reserves of major lost-time cases
prior to submission to the New York Compensation Insurance
Rating Board and, if merited, negotiates with the carrier
to reduce excessive reserves.
